Fur is NOT glamorous. People who wear fur signals that they are very ignorant, and it's nothing glam or beautiful about ignorance. I think that if you ant to be perceived as modern, you have to show that you have values and integrity. Torture is so out.
I don't like the fur at all. The models are beautiful and the poses are cool but I'm very very against fur..its senseless killing of beautiful animals. Try fake fur..no harm done.
I'm against fur myself--I don't even like faux much. But, what about leather? (I do wear leather shoes and belts.) What's the difference really? Fur looks more like an animal, but leather is an animal too, and a lot more are killed to produce leather than fur. Just a thought.
hi guys! just wanted to say that the reason why I loved this editorial was because of the way it was styled-not necessarily because of the fur! i mostly wear faux fur anyway... even though it feels like a stuffed teddy bear compared to real fur
fashion by he: will check out ur blog!
jacqueline: sorry i always forget to link u, will link right now
anon 3:44: i agree with u 100%!!! People are always so anti-fur but I am pretty sure they wear leather... we’re still killing animals for damn leather and “a lot more are killed to produce leather than fur”!
theglamorouseccentric: i think it’s beautiful but i’m certainly not an “admirer” of fur
I have leather, yes. I have very mixed feelings for that myself actually, but I don't want to be fanatic or hysterical. So this is what I personally think: Even though I don't eat meat myself, a lot of people do so, and the meat industry is big. I think every person for themselves should make their own decissions wether to eat meat. What I think is the best thing, is that when they kill an animal they use all the parts of it (meat, skin, bone etc). I'm not saying that all cows have a good life before they get killed to give us meat and leather, but at least in my country I know most of them have a worthy life, and they are killed humanly (if there's such a thing).
With fur there is another story. Those animals are killed only for their fur. And they are tortured in the most shocking ways while they are alive. Animals on fur farms spend their lives in tiny cages only to be killed by anal or genital electrocution, which causes them to have a heart attack. (This makes the fur extra fluffy..)Some are skinned alive. Animals in the wild may languish for days in traps before they die or are killed. To find out more about fur, please visit FurIsDead.com.
I think that a lot of people don't know how these creatures are treated. And I think it's important that they find out. If a person had seen a fur farm, they would not find fur glamourus.
I did not mean to offend you in any way Karla, but I feel like saying that I don't accept promoting fur in fashion is probably the most important thing I can do as a style blogger.
fur is GREEN! think about how many harsh chemicals are used to produce faux fur and the tremendous amounts of energy that go into it. and just a statistic for thought...a quarter of 1% (thats 0.25%) of the animals that are used for food and other products are used for fur. that's nothing! wayy more animals get killed on the highway every year.
real fur is sustainable, biodegradable, renewable, totally natural..and we obviously owe it to the animals to have a very regulated system so we aren;t killing any endangered animals.
anywayss i just had to get that off my chest because all you anti fur people really piss me off, i know you love animals, i love them too, but you need to get a serious grip..and maybe focus on all the issues that us HUMANS are facing in the world today you know like hunger, AIDS and war and stuff. ok thats it! haha
karla i love your style girl, i think you should make a statement and wear real fur. this editorial is seriously awesome, i love those models! and the fur of course.
maybe you should take a minute and read the comment 4 above you left by HEK. The fact that animals are tortured and skinned alive means nothing to you? Those are direct acts of cruelty. Compassion and action to decrease direct acts of cruelty and putting action into meaningful causes is a continual thing, whether its advocating for animal rights or on behalf of victims of AIDs or war. When you think about it they are connected on a number of levels. I don't see what kind of statment you are telling Karla to make by wearing fur, other than be self centered and shortsighted.
I really hate when people push their beliefs down peoples throat! Anti animal cruelty activists have balls to stand up for animals (that btw, were created by God to be used by humans...food, their skin, etc) YET ask most of them, if not all.... if they believe in abortion.... and they will scream "a woman's choice" THEY RATHER DEFEND A FREAKEN ANIMAL (which I love) THEN AN UNBORN HUMAN BEING!!!!!!! How stupid are they?!!!! millions of unborn babies are vaccumed out or burned with acid inside a "pro-choice female womb".... yet they criticize those who wear fur. Even if you're against fur / abortion.... use your energy in becoming a less judgemental person and mind your own business!!!!!
It's a shame to be promoting these things. I know about animal cruelty, and I think it is a silly excuse (to say the least) to say: "People are always so anti-fur but I am pretty sure they wear leather... we’re still killing animals for damn leather and “a lot more are killed to produce leather than fur”! What can I say about the statement above?? In other words she's saying that: Oh, if a group of people are killing animals to get leather for the sake of fashion, why wouldn't I kill animals to get fur? If everyone's logic would be like that, Oh my God! there wouldn't be people or animals alive! This is not about following what the mayority does, it's about having our own principles, but I'm happy to see that there are still some girls who don't wear fur, maybe they're few, but few can make a difference too. Congrats to them! Rachel
Being pro-choice isn't about killing babies you imbecilic twats. It's about allowing women to decide what happens to their bodies.. and that is completely and utterly inequivalent to fur/animal slaughter. A more fitting comparison would be if animals could CHOOSE to sacrifice themselves for fur. And ridiculous as it is, if it were possible a lot of anti-fur activists would have no problem with it. Maybe if you, Anon 9:27, weren't so judgmental about abortion you could comment on the fur trade with a bit of clarity.
It's also a logical fallacy to say animals were created for human use because there are entire ecosystems which don't intersect with human agency at all.
For the record, I don't care if other people wear fur these days because everyone knows how these animals are treated. Faux of course is preferable, vintage if you need to have the real thing, but if you're going to buy it you already know what you've paid for. It's like smoking, if you don't care you just don't care... But to compare that to abortion minimises and ridicules all of the complexities of making the decision to abort. Not all babies grow up in wonderful unabusive families you know, American foster homes are over-run with children... People abort because they can't adequately provide for a child and that is actually a pretty humane decision.
@anon 9:27: If God really wanted us to wear fur we probably wouldn't have invented as many fabrics as we already have, fabrics which are less dense, easier to clean, etc. You forget that development has advantaged us in ways that have superceeded whatever God's apparent intentions are. When God created us we probably took a dump in front of each other as well, do you think he still wants us to do that too?
No, because we've moved on.
Karla, the problem isn't so much whether you yourself wear fur or whether you like the styling in this shoot because yeah, it is pretty good and it's possible to appropriate these looks without real fur. I completely understand where you're coming from Karla. The problem is that a lot of truly stupid people read your blog and they worship you blindly. You can see it in some of the previous comments, where people have actually said that they would never before consider wearing real fur, yet you posting this ed has somehow changed their mind. That is so gravely idiotic that I don't understand how these kind of people have survived this long. If natural selection was still prevalent they probably would have gone a long time ago.
You need to put your filter on for a topic this controversial, not because of how it reflects on you but because of how mindlessly some of your readers adopt your ideas.
I agree, a woman has a choice with "what happens to her body"... for example, the right to change her nose, breasts, tummy, etc. BUT SHE DOESN'T have a choice to what happens to the body of the future child in her womb!!!!!!!! you imbecilic twat! Pro choice women just don't want to be held responsible for their actions... BTW, God instructs his people to dress in animal fur in some occasions in the Bible (since you shoved your "i love animal" beliefs down our throats, i'll do the same) NEVER EVER COMPARE AN ANIMAL TO HUMAN BEING!!! (or what you pro-choice people call "just a bunch of cells")
"It's about allowing women to decide what happens to their bodies.. and that is completely and utterly inequivalent to fur/animal slaughter. A more fitting comparison would be if animals could CHOOSE to sacrifice themselves for fur"
UNBORN CHILDREN DO NOT CHOOSE TO SACRIFICE THEMSELVES EITHER IDIOT
I love fur. In fact, I have a closet freaking FULL of it because I can't stop thrifting the greatest, old vintage pieces!! Personally, I think this entire debate going on in the comments section is overblown.
It's funny, I spent a semester in Denmark where EVERYONE wore fur and I was much, much more comfortable going out in public wearing fur; in America, I feel a lot more reserved because some people DO feel so strongly about it.
But whatever: the styling here is gorgeous, the fur looks really sumptuous, and whether or not you actually wear fur, this editorial is STILL inspirational, so in my opinion, it very much belongs on this blog!
Oh, and those belted boots are FANTASTIC.
Great blog Karla, I've been following forever and hope you stop by to check out mine.
X Lauren (IN)DECOROUS TASTE A blog about eccentric interiors, written by a fashion-obsessed girl.
"the reason why I loved this editorial was because of the way it was styled" for me it is so snobbishhhh... I was a great fan of your style, daily visited your site, but now...
Great editorial. Fur is here to stay! I love fur and can't wait to get something this season covered in it! Also those over the knee boots are so hot this season.. I am teetering on if I should indulge or not.
Ok, I'm not all for how fur is gotten nowadays, but people need to just chill...no matter what they do or say, fur is still a part of fashion and will forever be...
Not to mention, what probably looks worse in this whole debate is not the actual act of wearing fur but perhaps the anti-fur activists who are screaming 'MURDER!' over and over again and throwing paint/liquid/powder all over people in order to 'make a statement'...don't know about how other people feel, but that's a big turn off for me when one side is more aggressive...flame me if you must, I'm not stopping you...
But back to the actual post, I think it was styled quite well...and I may have to actually find this magazine...
P.S. Before I get accused of wearing fur, with all the allergies I have, fur isn't exactly the friendliest thing for me to wear...and yes, I do own one fur coat, but it is vintage, given to me by an aunt many years ago and I have yet to wear it...
I love your blog and your style!! And I have a question.. what type of letter do you use for the title?? I love it! and I would like to use it for a work at university! thanks! and sorry about my english but i'm spanish! Kisses!
oh PLEASE. HEK, the way animals are farmed for meat is probably one of the most disgusting, cruel things in the world. Watch the documentary "Meet Your Meat" and tell us again that farming animals is humane. I'm a vegan so naturally I don't wear fur or leather, but 1) I'm not going to have an aneurysm over Karla's post and 2) the fact that all you psychopaths have a complete SHITFIT over fur yet think nothing of wearing leather or eating meat completely pisses me off. Its so hypocritical it makes me sick.
Love your blog Karla. Thanks for having your own opinions and having the balls to post something that you like, even if you get a shitstorm of crazies commenting.
gorgeous editorial. i love the leopard print pants! and the hats too. reminds me of cheryl coles - fight for this love music video... have a lovely day :) XOXO, BECCA
Wow, yeah, awesome, now let's all go out and skin some animals alive so we can all follow in this fashionistas footsteps. Animals living in horrific conditions before dying in equally horrifc circumstances , often being skinned alive....who cares as long as we look good wearing their tortured left over parts!!! Hey if you have a dog or cat at home, go skin it! What your buying has a strong chance of being dog or cat fur anyway so whats the difference. Compassion is soooo last season.
That is a creation of arts. But fur, faux fur, right? I got one too, faux fur. Not a jacket tho. It's a vest, long to tights and it's light brown, I got it from Zara two weeks ago, I love it :D
Everyone is obssesed with fur this season, me icluded. Can't wait to get my hands on some faux fur! Enter my Giveaway! XOXOX Libby http://fashionconfectionairy.weebly.com
HAahhaAHHA, did you think when you posted this that you would get so many people up in arms about one thing?,Crazy huh? You werent saying you supported the fur trade or whatever , goshh people blow things out of proportion!! WE GET IT! Great post yet again! I ADOREEE THOOSE LEATHER BOOOOTS :D so want them!!
Anal electrocution and skinning raccoon dogs while still alive as is done in China is far from elegant. Slamming a syringe full of poison into the heart of a fox, or breaking the back of an ermine with one's bare hands as is done on fur farms is far from trendy or glamorous. It's all vile and heinous. People who think fur is "hot" should be forced to watch one's done to these animals to fully comprehend how delusional they are to think fur procured for useless trim and as draping around their empty heads is anything but abysmal ignorance and outright cruelty.
I agree with gio 100% This is a congregation of empty heads that only follow whatever Karla says because they think it's cool to be that way, how immature and empty you girls are! I'm sure that you'll keep following Karla even if she decides to put the actual pictures of the tortured bloody animals tomorrow and says: "This is fashionable & hot and I'm just putting this because of the styling" and you all are going to say: "Oh yes Karla, I love it! That's really hot right now!!" You girls are as airhead as Zoolander! Except the girls against this cruelty of course! Kate
wow! that´s amazing! I love those furs! And the black hat on the second last(?) fotos is amazing! I would be so happy if I could hang it on my wall as a decoration!!!! MMMMMMM! xxx
The point remains, which I'm sure someone has already made, is that leather is a by-product of the meat industry made (by and large) from animals that end up on the table. The fur trade is one in which animals - and we're talking about foxes and minks and the like here - are kept in appalling conditions and then killed in the most barbaric manner. Anal probes anyone? Buying vintage fur makes absolutely no difference; you're still supporting an inhumane industry that given all the advancements made in fabric technology seems incredibly outdated. I don't care whether or not the pictures look beautiful. I'd still rather see it on the animals it was intended for.
Hi Karla, I love your blog! And that's an amazing editorial! I blogged about it too, you can see my post at http://nikapika.onsugar.com/5669855. Cheers, Nika

real furs aren't classy, for shame Karla...

Wow that editorial is amazing
"the reason why I loved this editorial was because of the way it was styled" for me it is so snobbishhhh... I was a great fan of your style, daily visited your site, but now...
wow wow wow
love this.
Very very nice pix, I love it

Great editorial. Fur is here to stay! I love fur and can't wait to get something this season covered in it! Also those over the knee boots are so hot this season.. I am teetering on if I should indulge or not.

Oh wow..

You're right this editorial is stunning, I love how it's on a white backgroud. It keeps the focus.
wow this is amazing

the furr over cropped blazer is amazzzzzzzzing!

I love it! and I would like to use it for a work at university! thanks!
and sorry about my english but i'm spanish!

Thanks for having your own opinions and having the balls to post something that you like, even if you get a shitstorm of crazies commenting.
gorgeous editorial.

try taking a stand for something.. it's waaay more fierce than any animal pelt.
layered texture is great, but how about the "new fur" being a very convincing faux? that would be worth celebrating.
WOW! These photos are solely FASHIONABLY FABULOUS!!!:)

It's a vest, long to tights and it's light brown, I got it from Zara two weeks ago, I love it :D
like th 4th!!!!!!

I agree with gio 100%
This is a congregation of empty heads that only follow whatever Karla says because they think it's cool to be that way, how immature and empty you girls are! I'm sure that you'll keep following Karla even if she decides to put the actual pictures of the tortured bloody animals tomorrow and says: "This is fashionable & hot and I'm just putting this because of the styling" and you all are going to say: "Oh yes Karla, I love it! That's really hot right now!!"
You girls are as airhead as Zoolander!
Except the girls against this cruelty of course!
Kate
faux fur is so RAD!!!

Thanks
Openyoureyes
Love it!!
great pictureess , love it!
i love how those thigh-high boots kinda draw lines in the photo and make it kinda artistic... if you get what i mean, hah
this is awesome!
People who still wear real fur suck. So much suffering on your back...This is like raping children to have fun...repulsive.
The red hill at the top blow my mind!
Hi Karla, I love your blog! And that's an amazing editorial! I blogged about it too, you can see my post at http://nikapika.onsugar.com/5669855.
