Flight School

mo3-1.jpg picture by stylebook18
mo6-1.jpg picture by stylebook18

Somebody commented that they dressed much more feminine when their hair was shorter as a way of playing up the whole "boyish" hair cut thing. As I got dressed this morning, I noticed how I've started leaning towards more frilly dresses and "let's embrace the curves" pieces... mostly because I like the way the messy mohawk juxtaposes against girly things.

Speaking of embracing your curves, I'm going to go get pistachio ice cream now. Oh and I've developed this odd fetish for mint-colored things... like mint pantyhose and mint lingerie. Sexy, no?

Wearing vintage charcoal and cream striped dress, vintage gold buckle belt, Bebe platform pumps, Melie Bianco fold-over clutch

Love mint colored lingerie, I think it really flatters all skin tones! Very sophisticated outfit.

I agree, when I had short hair I felt I could dress a little girlier than I was previously used to...LOVE this vintage dress, looking hot ;)

PS. YUM....Pistachio icecream's my favourite flavour!

Your style is so unique and I love that you make everything look rather effortless (even though it's probably not). I also love the idea of playing up the boyish-ness of your new hair cut with more feminine pieces. You look great, as always :)

Super classy outfit - I love black and white combinations. What does your tattoo say?

P.S. I loved your haircut so much, I mentioned it on my blog and used one of your photos. Hope that's okay!

Amen to the mint thing, that's my new infatuation as well. Also you inspired me to take a chance with my hair too and now it's reddish purple :) But now i kinda want a hawk. Those pumps are so glamorous and I love that skirt on you.

gennie said...

mmm pistachio ice cream!! i think it makes sense to wear things that look very "woman" when you have short hair because I think a short haircut + sexy clothes makes an overall powerful statement.

once I was wearing a fedora with all of my hair tucked into it and a blazer + wide legged pants and this man I was paying at a farmer's market stand said "thank you sir" to me. I was left a little stunned. I made a mental note never to repeat that outfit. lol.

Nothing beats mint+chocolate chips ice cream ;)

Amanda said...

awesome skirt! I just love black and white stripes! as for dressing more femininely with short hair, I did not do that when I cut my hair. then again, i didn't cut my hair as short as yours; mine was just at my ears, and I wore a bunch of pants after that. but now that my hair is growing out a bit more, i keep finding myself wearing skirts. but awesome outfit and heels!

her arms are muscular, not fat. some of the readers of this blog are really stupid. you can see the muscle definition in her arms!

Anonymous said...

Embracing curves? You're like a size 2. Your view of embracing curves is wear leggings with a shirt. You have no idea what the meaning of curves are? I mean sure you're not as skinny as other bloggers but you are skinny- camera's add 10 pounds! I find that most of the famous bloggers are stick thin. Which says something about the fashion industry. The industry promotes super thin, skinny, emaciated girls by limiting clothing sizes (I'm not an idiot it's way more expensive for YSL to make a suite in a size 14 than a size 2) and using those girls to promote their clothing. My best female friend is 6'0" 130 and a size 0, she is the skinniest person I know but I can't see a bone because she is all muscle. The models they send down the runway are 5'10" and are only a mere 100 pounds. CRAZY! Bloggers are suppose to break that boundary, right? Well... it seems like the only ones lucky enough to make it to the big leagues are the skinny and the rich. Sure you shop at flea markers but you also shop at places where shoes are $500. So I will say it again, curves? Curves? Don't insult me. And don't confuse other girls by representing yourself as a women with curves. I'm sorry if I'm coming off as insulting. I'm a size 9 and 5'8" so I am constantly battling with my size. I'm normal, yet I still find it difficult to fit into my size and find myself fluctuating between sizes. I have to wear the largest size in a pair of the most amazing leather Alexander Wang zip up shorts and it's not my fault. I'm not bitter, I'm pissed. (not at you though) I know your intention was not to state that you're this super curvy girl who's not in the least bit skinny and I have probably twisted your words a bit and for that- I apologize.

Kudos to the super-long post by anonymous above... I agree whole-heartedly. I'm about the same height as Karla -5ft 4-, but I am a UK sie 10/12= US 6/8. Even I am told off for thinking of myself as curvy by friends who regard me as quite petite and I'm definitely bigger than you, Karla. But I'm happy with that, I like having wide hips and a bust. Karla, you are a size 2/4 and weigh about 110lb. You are a very slim girl. Just because you don't cross the boundary of being completely emaciated like fashion models are, does not make you curvy!!! You are small and toned, and you look great, but don't try and fly the flag for the curvy girls as if you're one of us, because you're really not.

Rhiannon said...

If any of that sounded harsh, I apologise. I love your blog Karla, and think you look great! Just be aware that you ARE A PETITE GIRL.
