Thanks, Karla, for this post! I too am really grateful that Christ died so I can repent of my sins and return to live with Him again someday. I'm also grateful for His resurrection and for the knowledge that life is eternal, and the good things of this life will continue on forever.
About the comments on materialism: I agree that we should be careful about caring too much about clothing and temporary pleasures, but at the same time, those things are just a part of this life, and I think it's okay to enjoy them. I seriously don't think God is going to condemn you or anyone else for enjoying things like that. Every person just needs to find their personal balance between the spiritual and the material. Anyone who's pointing fingers and telling someone else to "repent" (or whatever you want to call it) should probably do some self-examination first. We all have weaknesses to overcome (whether it be materialism or something else - perhaps being too judgmental?), and our focus should be on overcoming those, not on telling others to change. I really enjoy your blog and think that you are so talented and cute. Thank you for having the character and courage to post about something that's super personal for you.
though i'm sure some people will have something negative to say, i really appreciate that you're able to put this up as something that IS a part of your life. the title says it all...because it's something you do for YOU...no one else!

Just wanted to say that its so sad that non -believers have to be so mean to those who do belive in Christ. If you have horrible things to say keep it to yourself. Infact it sounds like those leaving nasty messages need some help. Everyone is entitled to thier beliefs and opinions, just be careful that what you say is not offensive, which some of the comments are. Thank you for posting this! I personally think religion is foolish and increasingly encouraging a false sense of belonging to those who 'believe'. However, I can appreciate a symbol of belief such as this image and what it represents. Please do not make 'non-believers' out to be something which they are not. For a lack of dedication to this 'greater power' to which you dedicate your time and attention does not make us bad people, simply those who do not need an excuse to spend time with their families on this lovely weekend. Believe in the good of others, not the wishes of an imaginary figure.

Every Easter I'm reminded of a sermon I heard ions ago comparing Easter to a new beginning. Forget New Year's resolutions. Easter is the time to reflect and set personal / spiritual goals. I personally think religion is foolish and increasingly encouraging a false sense of belonging to those who 'believe'. However, I can appreciate a symbol of belief such as this image and what it represents. Please do not make 'non-believers' out to be something which they are not. For a lack of dedication to this 'greater power' to which you dedicate your time and attention does not make us bad people, simply those who do not need an excuse to spend time with their families on this lovely weekend.
Believe in the good of others, not the wishes of an imaginary figure.

I am a believer and I really do not do that, but so many times I had "non-believers" say things like Katie did (btw, not trying to make her feel bad, it's just for an example)- saying we believe in an imaginary figure or that we need an excuse to spend time with our families. Having that happen so many times, it's getting hard not to put "non-believers" in a box of people who say they respect religions and yet they 2 minutes later they call religions stupid (btw, not saying that Katie did that or that all non-believers do it)or a waste of time or something similar. I don't know any religious person that ever said to a "non-believer" that their belief that God doesn't exist is stupid or a waste of time, all were really respectful of their choice. So please, try to do the same when in contact with people who believe.

Wow.....love it. At first I thought it was a picture of a necklace then did a complete 380. It warmed a lot of hearts prompting many to leave a post. Every Easter I'm reminded of a sermon I heard ions ago comparing Easter to a new beginning. Forget New Year's resolutions. Easter is the time to reflect and set personal / spiritual goals. It truly symbolizes new beginnings. PS. I liked your comment - great words to live by.

Imagine this. We (non believers) use all of that extra love and time on the people closest to us...time that believers spend on their religious beliefs. I'm not saying that makes you love your family/friends any less but how can that kind of love we express make us 'empty people'. Comments like that really make SOME religious people seem spiteful and small minded.

I have a lot more respect for you now Karla, not because you are a Christian, but that in these trying times it gets harder and harder to admit being one without people getting the wrong idea (you know, that all Christians are extremist judgemental freaks - which sadly is half true). Bless :)
Oh PS to all you HATEFUL anonymous commenters- I have tons of Aetheist friends - I never have put them down for their "non-beliefs" and they don't put me down for mine - respect for everyone, that's what I believe. Maybe you should think that too before you shoot your anonymous mouths off with hateful, derogatory comments. There is room for all types of people in this world - no need to hate on people for what they believe in.
OH and to those who think we love our friends and family less because of God - GROW UP! Love is unlimitless, neither God nor my family is getting the shaft here.
