Wishy Washy

ruf17.jpg picture by stylebook18ruf18-1.jpg picture by stylebook18ruf19-1.jpg picture by stylebook18

It struck me as a surprise when I found myself trying on this ridiculously ruffled mini dress because normally, I'd gag at the sight of anything remotely similar to a one of those wash cloth things you find at a close-out store. While mostly everyone is wearing dark colors for some reason (must be because of the colder climates), I figured I'd skip the black tights today and wear it with ivory nylon leggings.

I was having lunch with my mom and brother and found some girl laughing at my leggings so I decided to indirectly make fun of her by stating, "At least I don't have a triple chin!!" Not the best comeback, but I couldn't think of anything at that moment so don't judge.

Wearing F21 charcoal ruffled dress, AA ivory leggings, custom-tailored leather jacket

Why the hell would you advertise your insensitivity? Making fun of something who's just made fun of you is REALLY immature. Congratulations, you just made yourself look mean AND stupid.

CHILL OUT!! WHAT I ADMIRE ABOUT KARLA IS THAT
SHE DOESN'T PRETEND SHE IS SUPER HUMAN. AND IS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT. I LIKE THAT SHE LETS US KNOW HOW SHE FEELS AT TIMES. THANK GOD SHE'S NOT ONE OF THOSE THAT CLAIM TO WANT TO SAVE THE WHALES AND FIND THE CURE FOR AIDS (GOOD CAUSES THOUGH) PLUS YOU ARE CALLING HER IMMATURE AND STUPID (HEY, YOU'RE DOING THE SAME THING HERE).
I BET IT HURT YOU CAUSE YOU HAVE A TRIPLE CHIN YOURSELF!!! ENJOY LIFE AND LAUGH DUDE!!!

There's nothing wrong with the leggings, I think its the dress with them. It's not a great dress, imo.

No offense meant, some outfits are just hit or miss. You're awesome because you're actually brave enough to try new things.

First, I would like to say I love how you take f21 (affordable) fashion and pair them with an expensive piece, whether it be a leather jacket or bebe heels.

Second, your outfit is def. cute! Those that laugh have no fashion sense.

Third, You're totally human, were all defensive. I would have said more than that!! She should be so lucky she said that to you and not me. lol

sometimes i like what you wear, but honestly this just doesnt work in my opinion. white leggings are incredibly unflattering and the shoes dont go at all. i actually think its just the leggings that throws me off, so ya, although it was rude of her, i almost understand her laughing at you.

Anonymous said...

are you saying that fat people like me with triple chins aren't beautiful?

Anonymous said...

Thats kinda mean! You're just giving her justification to mock you. Grow up! Don't fight words with words.

Anonymous said...

knowing that you do dress differently than other people, you should expect that people will be making comments about your clothes, and it won't always be positive.

Anonymous said...

Why is it such a big deal?? People are taking things too seriously!!

Anonymous said...

i liked your hair before you got it trimmed. i like the messy/edgy look it had to it.

also, i don't like the dress, but i do like that you wore white leggings with it. never seen that before.

oh and by the way, i love you and your blog, but sometimes you seem a little stand off-ish/cocky. i know your a sweetheart, but sometimes i feel like you can be judgemental. but hey, who isn't?

Farren said...

mhmm. i hate when people mock what others wear. or stare. like you care. and i'm totally rhyming. haha.

Angela said...

Ugh, haters are ugly. The look is fierce.

x said...

Um, ya everyone is beautiful and all that shit, but if you have a fucking triple chin it's not exactly something to be proud of. It's not flattering to look at and people should learn to have a sense of self-awareness. And when we say everyone is beautiful even those without the physical beauty, we usually mean they have inner beauty to make up for it. This triple chin girl clearly lacked both. So she had what was coming to her.
I don't see the need to be sympathetic toward a bitchy girl just because she had physical shortcomings.

Now for the most part we have enough manners and abide by social rules and know enough to not point out people's physical shortcomings. But a triple-chin is a triple chin. Just because we don't point it out doesn't mean we don't see them, and when we see them it's not a pretty sight.

And if you're going to be so shameless as to make fun of someone's white leggings or something ridiculous as that, which is stupid in the first place, you obviously provoked them and the triple chin girl pretty much asked it for herself. She can't cry over it because she fucking provoked Karla to start with.

There is a difference in making fun of someone for a choice they've made (i.e. what they're wearing) and something inherent to who they are and how they look (i.e. number of chins).

Karla gets a list of compliments about what she wears every single day on her blog, one would think she'd be able to take a little dissent in the real world.

Anonymous said...

You're so cocky, full of yourself and you judge others by what they look like, which you admitted yourself.

Fuck, this is a public blog. You could at least pretend that you're a NICE person.

Some time ago you were my fave blogger, but seriously I am kinda ashamed of myself that I've wasted my precious time visiting this site.

Michelle said...

OMG! Karla, I've read some of the recent readers' comments and they're just downright nasty. Sorry that you're a victim of so much envy and bitchiness. Just know that you still have a good number of loyal fans, so just ignore the other ones.

Not everyone can pull off white leggings. Every artist must make some mistakes in order to create masterpieces. There's nothing wrong with experimentation. Some people take the fun out of fashion.

Michelle said...

I also forgot to include that everyone is flawed, nobody is perfect. We all have our bitchy moments. How can you (bitchy commentators) complain about Karla being a bitch when you all are being bitches back?

It's proving that you're no better. The fat girl was being a bitch to Karla, she was bitchy back, and then readers are showing their bitchy sides toward Karla. It's an endless cycle of bitch!

Anonymous said...

Come on girls! Let's all try to be kind to each other! The girl who made fun of Karla was obviously being insensitive, but Karla perpetuated her cruelty by her comment about the triple chin. And all the people making rude comments about Karla's weight are just adding to this viciousness.

Everyone is at least a little bit insecure about some aspect of our bodies (I'm 5'1 and 90 pounds and look like a 12 year old), so let's try to introduce some positivity!

Oh please, continue to dress this way because all-black-outfits are a big no no at the moment as they always look good. It's very easy to pick a bucnh of black cloths and combine them all together. Only people who have a great knowledge about fashion know how to dress with the use of different colors.

Wow such bitchy commentors.

I'm glad you told her off and I'm glad you're not pretending to be nice. Keep it real Karla!

Is the phrase "cheese IN my teeth" correct? English is not my first language, but having food IN your teeth doesn't sound too logical, now does it? That's funny 'cause even when you're trying to insult someone you kinda prove how stupid you are. Way to go.

Anonymous said...

love that you didn't go with the typical black tights! & cheese in my teeth is actually the right way to say it. we can tell english isn't your first language! =)

shopgirl28 said...

I like the ruffle dress. And you pair your clothes so well.

Your look has come to a point where it's just pretty much the same outfit recycled over and over again. There's no creativity, growth, or evolution. It's just always a combination of tights and esoteric heels.

And for clarification, this is not me being bitchy (although some might disagree), it's constructive criticism. If you're in the fashion industry, you have to be able to take criticism without lashing out in a childish manner. Be professional and grow beyond the immature need to use "comebacks."

Love the look girl..;D

Nice post Karla.Keep it up girl.=)

I think the person who keeps commenting under "Anonymous" is the same person posting over and over again. Anonymous, GET A LIFE! Maybe you're the one with weight issues cause Karla looks fine and she has loads of style. I may not always like everything she's wearing, but I'm not going to leave some nasty comment insulting her looks. You probably look like that girl with triple-chin. ;)

Samantha B. said...

Karla, for someone who claims to not care about what other people think about your style, you seem to not remain unaffected. I understand getting pissed off when someone pokes fun at something you're wearing but the fact that you reacted in the manner you did made me feel so insulted. If you were to poke fun at the girls shoes for example, maybe then it would be an eye for an eye- not very classy but still okay. The fact that you went for her body is what makes me so enraged. The fashion industry is goes this constant scrutiny of what is too thin. God forbid someone be a size 9/30 (what I am)! I'm not overweight by any means, but as a 17 year old who has constantly gone through her life struggling with my body, it is so saddening to see someone who I looked up to make fun of someone because of their weight. I know you said that you "couldn't think of anything at the moment" and to "not judge" but the fact of the matter is, is that you said something without using your better judgment. No matter the time lapse of a come-back, there should still be a filter and you did not use yours. You could have been the bigger person (excuse my pun) but you weren't.

There are other ways to be a bitch then making fun of someone's size. Nobody is perfect but now when I read your blog it will be filled with disdain.

Samantha B. said...

And also.....there is a difference between being real/honest and being a blatant bitch. After reading all your comments I think it's pretty easy to see how your insult has caused your readers to react. Many are insulted and find it gross that you decided to use the comeback you did. So many people are struggling with body issues, regardless of their size. You don't have to be fat to find what you said over-the-line. Those who encourage your behavior, your "honesty" have probably never been bullied (whether for size, race, complexion, style, etc.) Anyways, I just wanted to say how I felt.

Girls laugh at me ALL the time (or so I think). Jealousy is usually the cause and it brings out the worst in people.

This girl was jealous that she couldn't pull those leggings off if she tried. Anyhoo, I WISH I had to moxy to come out and say that. I can NEVER think of a comeback and wish I did more than scowl :)

Samantha B., YOU'RE AWESOME!!!

Anonymous said...

How do you indirectly make fun of someone by blatantly saying something?

Wanderlusting said...

PS - ANYONE who leaves rude comments here is just jealous, hence why they are hiding behind "anonymous" mask.

They are as rude as the girl who laughed at you.

THEY all look like jealous catty bitches.

And I LOVE how you are keeping their silly comments up on this blog because it just PROVES how petty they are.

It's Ok to not like what you are wearing (I frankly don't like white leggings on anyone but it's not laughable, just personal choice) but it's never OK to be mean.

Hell, I'd say every girl on this post who left a catty comment also has a triple-chin and cheese in her teeth

Take care - as amusing as all these insecure women are, I hope youre taking it ok :)

Lusty

Wanderlusting said...

Oh and before this provokes anything else (not that anyone really cares :P) but the catty comments are the ones that just insult Karla pure and simple. I can understand the comments where people may be disappointed or thinks she should have handled it better because that's just personal opinion, which people are allowed to express :)

The jacket is amazing karla! you always have the most original one of a kind pieces!

leather and ruffles - edgy yet lovely!

That FAT ASS BITCH was just jealous because she didn't have the guts to try pulling off white leggings. She should just get back to her job behind the counter flipping burgers or whatever.

I don't love your outfit, Karla but I really really admire you for your confidence! :)

Anonymous said...

gossip gossip gossip!
i love reading people's comments because they're so dramatic! are we a bunch of chicks or what?! haha

Kristina Y. said...

I'd really appreciate it if people didn't just immediately categorize a difference in opinion as "jealousy," since that just makes you come off as condescending and arrogant. Sure, the allegedly "overweight" girl who loves dairy products might not have expressed her difference in opinion of what looks good and what doesn't in the most polite manner, but there's no reason for us to all suddenly lash out at her and call her fat/stupid/only worthy of working at a fast food restaurant.

What ever happened to camaraderie and solidarity, girls?

Anonymous said...

karla your jacket is so beautiful! as for the comments about the comebacks, people should stop giving you so much slack for making a mistake. we're only human after all and its these experiences which teach us how to become a better person. despite living half way around the world from you, i really admire you for your confidence and appreciating the body that you have, but in no way do i expect you to be a saint.

xx

you're defenitly too much for white skinnys

Anonymous said...

people who make fun don't understand. and are probably wearing uggs.

LJ said...

For gods sake, the girl who laughed at Karla was a bully. Most people don't stand up to them and sometimes the best thing is really to point out their insecurities. I admire you for it Karla! I'd like to think that I would have done the same thing.
The fact is, she probably was jealous of karla's beautiful chin and decided to try and make Karla feel bad because of it.

iva said...

oh shut the hell up, karla looks awesome.
i don't see how noone comments on the girl making fun of her, but karla can't make fun of the girl....double standards for fat people? ;)

cheers

hahahahaha OMG Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!

Good fashion always stand out of the ordinary... that sometimes lead to controversy. In this case, Karla's white leggings did it! LOL sooo awesome.

Anna Pope said...

I think that girl deserved it and that was a better comeback than what I would have come up with :P

I love the dress!

another girl said...

Just because the fashion industry parades around obviously ultra-thin models does not mean that it's ok to be overweight- this is a serious misconception in this country. Being fat is still just as bad and unhealthy as being very thin. Comments by those that are happy being overweight are ironic- if you are ok with being fat, then why would the double-chin comment offend you?

another girl said...

In what strange, sheltered world do some of you girls live where such perceived "insensitivity" can cause this kind of back lash?

A random person insulted this girl's appearance and she responded with an insult. Welcome to reality.

there..there...
Karla worked so hard for her every style, that's why..

hush now, go dig some other 'vint' store or aa or F21 or any online store so that you'll have so-called new combined stuff to be brag about

Some people are just so rude...Fat are you serious?, This girl has an amazing shape, some of you need to take notes........I like your outfit! The motorcycle jacket is my favorite piece!

Scarlett said...

Karla, i love your blog but i'm gonna have to say i think you totally lowered your standards when commenting on the triple chins?

i vaguely remember you saying you sometimes judge people on what theyre wearing too, like ugg boots for example (which i hate aswell) the only difference is she voiced her opinion, and you retaliated in a way a 12 year old would do.

liking the recent outfits tho, i just think you have to rise above other people's comments

Isquisofrenia said...

omg, ok at first i was like why are you apologizing for and then i read this post.
Girl, you did nothing wrong, anyone would react the same way.
and i dont know why all this girls are telling you all this stuff.
I bet if someone was laughing at them , they wouldve said some sheez like that too.

anyways JEALOUSY!!!!!

Lydia said...

I don't see why this is causing so much drama.

Karla, I don't nesscarily agree with what you said, but at the same time, I'm sure it's something that many people have said or done one time or another, whether or not they are ready to admit it. You're human, we're human. That's all.

P.S. I think you look gorgeous in white leggings.

Next time I would just say, Well im famous on the inter web and your not!
