Beauty picks

beautypost3.jpg picture by stylebook18
Haven't done a beauty post in a while, so I thought I'd share a few of my favorite products/products I'm tempted to try.

1. Rene Furterer Curbicia regulating shampoo- This may sound a little weird but for some bizarre reason I have a really oil scalp so this shampoo is like a total life-saver. Keeps me from having to wash my hair everyday!
2. MAC carbon eyeshadow- Sometimes I use it as eyeliner by smearing it on with a Q tip, or I'll do super smokey eye... usually when I'm going out with the boyfriend.
3. Urban Decay shadow in Ransom- Been dying to try purple eyeshadow. Has anybody ever worked with colored eye shadow?
4. Nars The Multiple in copacabana- It has become one of my makeup necessities. It can be worn on your cheeks, lips, and eyes, but I prefer to use it on my cheeks (creates an illusion of killer cheekbones!)
5. Diorshow Black out mascara-  One thing I think every girl should use everyday no matter how much of a rush you're in is... mascara. I tried Dior's as a sample from Sephora and now I pretty much use it everyday. Makes your lashes look full and thick without looking too dramatic for everyday wear.
6. Revlon Nail polish in Fuchsia Fever and Raven Red- I'm sort of over (sort of being the keywords) my cherry-red nail color. I'm toying with these two colors right now- they're total opposites of each other, but I love them.
7. Rene Furterer Pate Modelante- Another Rene Furterer product that I use daily. It's my secret (shh) to keeping my hair somewhat under control.

Sooo... any beauty products you're into right now?

When you use smething like the Nars product on your cheeks, how do you do it? Do you put it on before or after foundation? Before or after powder? I end up making a mess of myself with these types of products sometimes even though I'm actually pretty good with the makeup... Please share the wisdom cause I have loads of things similar to that that I don't use, but would love to! Thanks!!!

I love Ransom by Urban Decay. I got two of my co- workers hooked on it!

I want to try the Q-tip thing... thanks for the tip! (:

I'm loving Josie Maran cosmetics right now. (Can be bought at Sephora and josiemarancosmetics.com) They're mostly organic and the super chic packaging is biodegradable. My favorite of the moment is the cream blush. I'd never used a cream blush before but it's amazing. Apply it on naked skin or over concealer/foundation but always BEFORE powder. Powder sets everything. (Remember the rule Cream to Cream - Powder to Powder.)

Also - with the purple - I find it best to put bold colors on the lid close to the lash line and follow up in the crease and/or near the brow with something lighter. Otherwise I find I end up looking like a clown.

Thanks as always for your blog! It is amazing!

I have yet to purchase Diorshow mascara. I've been putting it off for the longest time. I agree on never leaving the house without mascara! haha

I love Diorshow also! Currently I am all about skin care, so I love the Origins Skin care line. I currently use their Modern Friction which I opt as a mask and then they have the best moisturizer that has white tea in it. My favorite brand of nail polish is OPI.

I'm using dior's unlimited mascara And its amazing. You can apply as many layer as you like, but your lashes still remains soft and doesn't clump at all.

Cheers karla I'm going try

i am so with you on that shampoo! i have a very oily scalp too and it is hands down the best shampoo i've ever used, but unfortunately i usually can't afford it.

and i used to use dior show, but i honestly think rimmel volume flash is much better and not to mention much much cheaper. rimmel also has great 60 second polish that stays on forever.

Lady, I was just browsing through your archives and the video of you browsing a flea market for supermelon is adorable! Your style is really inspiring and I love how blazers seem to be our staple- you've been wearing them since day one. I wear blazers 24.7 and with summer around the corner and a whole new slew if vintage levis cut-offs, i'm looking forward to turning to your past looks for inspiration on how to rock the two together. PS. that shot of you and your mom from way back in 08 is AMAZING!!!!! really cool. Love the leather vest your mom's wearing.

I have the fuschia fever nail polish and I love it! It's perfect for beach days. Of course any revlon nail polish is sure to be good :)

Karla, I too, am cursed with an extremely oily scalp. Thanks for the shampoo recommendation, I can't wait to try it! Also, my favorite product in the world for extending a blow-dry is Klorane's Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. It disappears into even dark hair and soaks up oil like nobody's business!

NARS blush in Deep Throat
NARS bronzer in Laguna
NARS lipstick in Dolce Vita
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Coastal Scents 28 Neutral Palette (still debating on whether or not to get the 88 palettes; also, a definite MUST in everyone's makeup collection!)
& foundation. I typically use MAC's SFF, but when I'm cheap, I'll just buy a bottle of Revlon.

Brigadeiro said...

Ooh I love the NARS multiples but am yet to try Copacabana...

My fave products of the moment:

1. Giorgio Armani Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Foundation - long name but amazing, especially for those who don't like to wear much foundation, it's very sheer and just 'blurs' imperfections, converted my cousin over the weekend :)

2. Shu Uemura Fibre Extension mascara - makes my relatively short lashes so long!

3. Prada tinted lip balm - except I developed an allergy :( absolutely loved it in the Chocolate colour...

4. NARS blush duos in Laguna/Orgasm & Torrid/Albatross

5. NARS bronzer in Heat (great for under the cheeks and contour the face)

6. SK II cleansing oil to remove makeup (no blurry eyes!).

Ok, I'd better stop, I must be boring everyone...

xx

i LOVE purple eyeshadow. I've just started using it recently since I got two wonderful purple shades from MAC for Christmas. For me, the purple works wonders because it really makes my dark brown eyes pop and still provides some contrast between my dark hair/eyes and pale skin. What works brilliantly for me is using a more matte (purple) shadow for the lid and then using an iridescent purple/periwinkle for the browbone.

Happy experimenting!

paule said...

i love coloured eye shadow. especially for someone who dresses in neutral tones. (otherwise its a little overwhelming)

the urban decay is pretty easy to work with, way more the mac. the fushia one is a must, and i also use it as a blush too. with or without the eyes at once. i dare you to put the purple as a blush though....maybe ill dare myself.

I just did a beauty post a few days ago, and I definitely agree with you on the oily scalp issue. My solution was a dry shampoo for in between washings. I also mentioned the UD deluxe eyeshadow. I have ransom, but I don't use it too much. Mostly as a liner or with a gold shadow layered over it. Either way it stays put without fading for much longer you would ever possibly need it to.

Cindy said...

karla, love you make up tips, i need to get the nars multiple. as for what i love, i'm a huge fan of dry shampoo, especially the sprays. they give you so much texture and stop the oily flat hair thing. i have the dior mascara too but my fav is fiberwing. it's from japan and they have it a sephora. it puts these little fibers on your lashes to thicken and lengthen them but then it washes off with water super easily. it doesn't really smudge either and it's very gentle on you lashes. i'm a total convert to it.

brooke said...

you have just inspired me to go buy pink nail polish.
I've been craving pink lately and have just realised nail polish is an absolutely awesome idea... I have the same polish in a very bright red, but pink would be so awesome right now...

i can jut recommend the obagi series for the face (cleanser, toner and moisturizer). i also have an oily scalp thus washing hair every single day. might try this one out.

I find that purple eyeshadow works with nude/gold, but doesn't tend to look great on its own.

colored eye shadow can be amazing or awful. experiment with a purple smokey eye, or check out Karen's beauty blog, www.makeupandbeautyblog.com. She's a little silly, but she does a great job with a brush.

MAC's eyeshadow in Tempting (shimmery golden brown) is amazing and my staple eye shadow.

I'm really into using shadow as a liner right now. I have these real deep chocolate brown, and I wet an angled brush and smudge it into my lashline. it looks fantastic.

yves saint laurent everlong mascara, clinique naturally glossy mascara.
i love revlon and max factor nailpolishes and also rimmels. and clinique&rimmel lipsticks.
i didnt like blackout mascara, i used it once and it was terrible, i gave it to my mom, i used to be diorshow girl but yvsl won in the end :)

Zoelissima said...

Definately give purple eyeshadow a shot! I have similar colouring to you (pale skin, brown eyes, dark brown hair) and for some reason every time I get my makeup done they do a smokey eye but with purple instead of black. The key is to use it like an eyeliner and blend, blend, blend - it'd look amazing!

Linda said...

I didn't scroll through all of the comments, so this might have been said, but...

I'm ADDICTED to colored eyeshadows. :) The purple you listed (which I have) is good, but if you want the BEST, get the Make Up For Ever purple eyeshadow - it's called #92. It's A-MAZING.

i am devoted to lights, camera lashes! by tarte. its the best mascara i have ever used! it isnt chunky or drying and after you put it on it looks like you have fake lashes. my lashes actually feel soft instead of hard.

i also LOVE all the benefit rose tinted products. the lip balm has spf 15 and its kind of shiny when you put it on so its like a balm, lip color and gloss all in one. amazing!

benefit also has a really great blushes and bronzers. i sweat by their dandelion blush and the packaging is just so pretty.

purple eyeshadow is my life. I put on black liner on top, nice and exact, and then I blend purple into my lower lashes and put macara on the top and bottom. Makes your eyes pop and stands out in the sun, especially if you have brown eyes like me :D

Diorshow Blackout Mascara is THE best I have ever tried, I used to use Benefit BadGal but it conveniently ran out the day I was getting a flight home from Italy so I got it in duty free (I always seem to be able to justify spending that much on something like mascara when it's in duty free...) and it does everything you could want from a mascara! Barry M dazzle dusts are the best for coloured eye shadows, I've tried other more expensive brands but Barry M uses such strong pigments and they have good staying power.

very good picks- i also am a big fan of the multiple... as for the colored eyeshadow, i sometimes use it as eyeliner (it's especially pretty with deep purples and emerald greens) or if it's a lighter color like canary yellow, i'll smudge it into the upper outer corners of my eyes.. just experiment and you'll find a look you like =)

Anonymous said...

love your blog...you can use progressively darker purple eyeshadow to do a smoky eye. lightest shade on your inner corners, darkest in the crease, medium on the lid and lining the lower lid. its fun, believe me.

I have the same problem with my hair, maybe Ill try that product. also, that coppacabana nars (?) I think thing looks incredibly good and versatile.

anyway, this past fall I found this OPI color that I loved to death, and then I cracked it back out yesterday cause my nails were looking awful. my blog will have it featured soon. its called OPI Heart Throb. Its so gorgeous and feminine and delicate.

allow me to just say, that I've read your entire blog. All of your posts-and your hair right now, is so chic and fits you so well. you make me miss when I had short hair. Now my hair is insanely long. But I'm thinking about cutting it again. You're beautiful! And you're style is sick (in a good way)!

my favorite in my beauty bag right now is "glow" by smashbox- it's a silky gel that you dab and rub into your cheeks. I hear it hardly shows up on women of very dark complexion though.

Petra said...

Ooh purple eyeshadow would be beautiful! It would go so well with your colourings as well.

I adore using a deep emerald green mac eyeshadow. Its such fun to wear, and brings so much more to a neutral-toned outfit than brown or black would.

Go for it!! xx

Mac’s carbon is literally a life saver and incontestably my truest companion. My makeup philosophy use to be mascara only (other than frightening-blemish days). My purse would contain pen, cellular phone, scraps of paper, gum wrappers and a tube of mascara…. But after an incident in which I found myself stranded with only a pot of black eyeshadow, I will never turn back. Seriously. There is some enigmatic charm to blank cheeks, virgin eyelashes, pale lips and heavy black eyelids. I think your blog is very wonderful. I’m Amanda…Feel free to check mine out, It is just a newborn blog, kind of sad stilll…. But none the less it and I could probably use some lovin. http://hangersandsocks.blogspot.com/
