Beauty Talk

Thought I'd share some of my beauty favorites...
beautylish-1.jpg picture by stylebook18
1. Smashbox eyelights palette (Beam)- I discovered this eye shadow palette last week while trying to find some eyeliner at Sephora. I use a wet Q-tip to dot the inner corners of my eyes.
2. Bath & body works coconut lime body butter- I love the scent of this body butter. Always buy it in bulk!
3. Revlon Beyond Natural defining eye pencil- It's a brand new product by Revlon and it works pretty well. I smudge it around your eye for an easy smoky eye.
4. Burt's bees milk & shea butter body wash- Another recent discovery that occurred while I was shopping for school supplies. I love how it's chemical-free.
5. Ojon restorative hair treatment- I have very dry hair (probably because I wash it too much), so I've started using this hair treatment. It kind of looks like dirt, but after the first use my hair felt so much better.
6. Stila smudge pots- The description says it's a gel eyeliner and shadow all in one. I personally love using it as a shadow for an undone smokey eye. It's easy to apply and best of all, it doesn't crease that much. Recommended in jet black and chocolate brown.
7. Shu Uemura eye lash curler-  Every girl needs one.
8. Make Up For Ever eyeliner- Best eyeliner ever.
9. Ojon detox recovery cleansing shampoo- Removes product build-up without being too harsh. I love Ojon's line of hair products!
10. Estee Lauder lucidity loose powder- Provides such a great finish without looking too "powdery."
11. Vera Wang Princess perfume- My mom always says every woman should have a signature scent. I'm still trying to find mine, but for now this one is my go-to.

What are some of your beauty favorites?

Maybelline 'Great Lash' mascara and OPI nail polish... if nail polish counts? VW Princess is my favorite, too.

Armani Code for women in scents, Mac Lipstick in Lustre, and maybellines highlight and conceal stick.

I love Bath and Body Works Sea Island Cotton body splash, it smells somewhat strong in the bottle, but if you put it on, it smells very fresh against the skin.

And I love L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara, but my lashes are either too long or curly that it leaves marks in the bottom lids =(

And for hair, my favourite conditioner is Tigi Catwalk Oatmeal and Honey. Great for damaged hair, my hair doesn't look damaged even after my straight perm. It's pricey though about $20 CDN for 250ml in Trade Secrets, but I got it for $15 for 750ml in another salon!

I should use some Ojon stuff, like the hair mask and recovery shampoo. Have you tried the dry shampoo by them?

I'm still looking for the perfect scent for myself. I'm thinking of getting Marc Jacobs Daisy this year.

Like youself I'm a bit of a beaity purist and rather selective with beauty products. My beauty classic would be Maybelline Blackest Black mascara and Smith's Rosebud Salve.

Love your blog by the way, have just added you to my favourites. x

i love beauty products, but i too find myself holding out for things like shoes and dresses! i love vw princess, but i also have d&g light blue, chanel chance, and be delicious by dkny. i loooove perfume!

i'm a huge fan of bare essentials faux tan. it's the best bronzer out there that goes on smoothly, without ever looking orange or clumpy. quick question about the revlon pencil...while i love the smokey eye look, do you find it's hard to apply since it's thicker than most? maybe that's the secret...i'm curious to know! thanks :)

paige said...

that's funny because i use vera wang princess and coconut lime products too.

Laura Mercier Tinter Moisturizer is heaven. It makes your skin even and soft with no cakey mess.

Benefit BadGal Mascara in Blue. I know.. blue?! But it's an almost black blue and makes your eyes pop no matter if you are brown or blue eyes.

Dry Shampoo in a spray (not powder). I straighten my mane sometimes and it gets really oily/greasy so I carry a travel size dry shampoo spray and it absorbs all the oil and makes my hair look more volumized and less oily.

Adiel said...

I love smashbox's o-gloss and o-glow. It's the perfect natural shade of pink.

I also adore Bumble and Bumble's hair powder. It's perfect for when my hair is greasy.

I am a mascara fanatic. My most recent mascara love is Imju Fiberwig Mascara

Karafina said...

yay.... I love most of the things you have on that list. Im an addict to the make up forever aqua eyes and stila smudge pots... hmm, maybe i should do a makeup post.....

Mickie said...

MAC everything and Chanel lipsticks:) I never know what to use on my skin, face, and hair so I totally appreciate this post. What does that dirt looking hair treatment smell like?? not that I really care either way, my hair is practically screaming for a little TLC!! congrads on teen vogue pretty, very deserved!!

princess smells SO good, ohmy.

Corrie said...

Vera wang princess is mine too : ) LOVE. Not a huge fan of the packaging so I didn't notice it at first but it smells so yummy!

Melissa said...

Mmm...the description of your favorite scent sounds delicious...probably just because I'm craving dark chocolate, ha. Anyway, I adore your blog and was wondering if you were willing to exchange links (is that what it's called in the blog world?). Either way, keep up all of the super inspirational posts! :)

Ah yes, I use Vera Wang Princess too. I also use Ojon Revitilizing mist, wish is amazing for untangling hair, AND making it silky smooth.

P.s. Im starting my blog again, do you have any tips for me?

Tali said...

omg im such a girl..but ohh recently my skin has been SO oily and i saw this youtube clip where a lady actually washed her skin with oil, to replenish the natural oils. It turns out the skin was producing too much oil as a way of combating dry skin, but the skin actually needed oil. Well I tried it and my skin has been looking FAB, maybe your hair needs more moisture and thats why it's been oillign out. Anywhoo(sorry Im such a beauty feign its weird).

Fav products:
Giovanni Direct leave in..i have curly hair like ur BF this works soso good.

bare escentuals, of course.

i use princess by vera wang but also sheer veil when I'm feeling a bit more sophisticated.

& Ojon refreshing spray when I straighten my hair.

im pretty big on eyelashes too(mascara, its necessary)..usually i skip eyeliner unless i wanna 'give it to em' aka (look hot) lol
ok, thaats the end of my novel. thanks for reading lol

I'm just gonna have to make me a cup of my vanilla/coconut/cocoa beans tea now! Thanks for a tip on perfume, i don't have one for the summertime, because i'm afraid of bees! But i will check it out:)
Products i recommend: Dermalogica for cleansing and moisturizing, Darphin for eye-area moisturizing (not anti-wrinkle cream, which doesn't work anyway), the YSL aquaresistant mascara is my best mascara so far, and mineral products (like i.d or everyday minerals) for foundation and similar.

Mimi said...

Jill Sander Style!I adore it and I'm sure I'll be very very sad when the bottle is empty :I

brini said...

This Ojon product looks quite interesting! Had to order it immediately. ;-) I have naturally curly hair and always problems with dry looking locks. Hope, that Ojon will help me as much as it did help you!

fashionlauncher said...

Oh i forgot to mention: I love these: Dior addict high shine (color 566 which is 'slightly pink'), Loreal Glam shine juice (210) - neutral color with shine (i got it for free!), and Lancome Juicy tubes (strawberry funk 98, a deep pink juicy gloss) - which tastes so good i just wanna add it all the time :D

Ida said...

I have faaaaaaaaar too many, as I am obsessed with makeup, to be honest. Plus, I always get bored with stuff, and I could never just pick up a scent and stay with it. Crazy me.

Interesting, your picks always highlight how many different purely American brands there are. Wide world, huh?

Anonymous said...

Yay, thank you so much Karla :) Unfortunately I do not live in the US so it'll be hard to find these products :(

Sasha said...

My signature scent is Ghost Deep Night, soooooo many people comment on this perfume when I wear it - delicious!! Paul Smith Rose is another beautiful perfume that I wear a lot. MAC Studio Fix is a great foundation as you can build up the coverage as much or as little as you like, I prefer wearing that during the day but for night I go for Armani Luminous Silk foundation as it gives the most unbelievable glow. Best bronzer is Benefit Hoola, Rimmel offers the best eyeliners and mascara, La Roche-Posay have an amazing cleanser that really cleans the skin without stripping away the oils. At night time I always use Astral cream on my face, it's a bit too heavy to wear during the day but it works wonders on my skin. My mum has been using it for years and she has great skin so I reckon it's pretty special.

emmaholloway said...

MAC powder and YSL touch eclat. I have really tempremental combination skin, and these are really light but give enough coverage so it is perfect.
I don't really have a signature scent. I wear Davidoff Cool Water, but I wouldn't consider myself recognised by it. It's not really me. I just bought it on a whim at an airport. I cannot escape duty free without buying something.

thefashionhead said...

all bare escentuals, all the time. well rested (for under the eyes, it really wakes me up), faux tan, and pure radiance (its glittery but in a subtle grown up way). its the only makeup i use besides lip balm and moisturizer... i clearly need a smudge pot. and everything else on that list...

Tinkerbell and fairies said...

Clinique's loose powder is also great!

Milly75 said...

I have the Vera Wang perfume as well...love it
I love Nars Lip Gloss..as well as Stila..have a few of them...MAC Studio Fix and their under eye concelear.
Smashbox o-gloss..Shu Uemura eye lash curler...Benefits bad gal mascara and high beam.
I just love makeup..my list goes on and on :)

I just did a post on my beauty faves a couples days/posts ago- check it out =) ...just in case: my #1 fave is bare minerals foudation in fairly light and Rimmel Lash maxxx mascara

avalon organics facial cleansing gel. it's super gentle, but removes eye make up without a trace so you don't have to use an eye makeup remover. also it's all natural and organic.

extra virgin coconut oil is a great moisturizer (for body, face, hair) and also removes eye makeup brilliantly.

honey makes a great face mask. it's moisturizing and cleansing and it's actually really good for acne prone skin.

Nita-Karoliina said...

i love qlinique naturally glossy mascara and all the face products and like everything in that line,

I bought the Burt's Bees body wash 2 weeks ago at Target, it smells so good! I'm almost halfway through the bottle already! I love that it's natural, too. They make so many great products that I use every day, like the peppermint foot creme, the lemon butter cuticle creme, and the citrus facial scrub.

I adore Makeup For Ever products and that coconut body butter sounds right up my alley!

was a very good read. I'll try out 1,5 and 8. I already have 7 (the curler). really looking forward to having a decent liner that doesn't run. my eyes are not like ... say western.. so my eye make-up always gets smudged so I haven't been doing any eye make-up for ages.. maybe this is the time. lucky I found your post. ♥

I also use the same eye curler, after reading about it so much I bought it at Sephora. It's amazing, I wish I had the 24k version. Has anyone used Creme de La Mer before? I've heard great things about it, but has anyone here use it?

Hannah said...

'My' scent is YSL Elle. Ahh, I love it! It makes me all happy when I put it on :P

I love the Body Shop's coconut body butter - it reminds me of summer as well. Oh, and Chanel's Inimitable mascara is the best.

I really must try some of that Ojon stuff - I washed my hair at about 3pm yesterday and it's already greasy at 10am!! Grrr.

Dee said...

Clinique High Impact Mascara in black, Lancome Juicy tube in Dreamsicle, Shu Uemura eyelash curler, MAC eye kohl in Phone Number, Bonne Bell lipsmackers in Dr. Pepper, Marc Jacob's Daisy (fell head over heels in love after the first sniff from a sample I got), MAC eyeshadows, Clinique, MAC, Revlon and L'Oreal lipglosses... yeah, I have piles of lipglosses scattered all over the place, LOL!

The only thing that I haven't tried is blush and I don't know if I should get a powder, a cream or a stain...??? Any suggestions?

karla said...

sycoob: I'm dying to try mac lipstick in some sort of bright red but I'm afraid!!

xoxgoodbye: Ooo I'll have to try that conditioner, my hair is starting to look damaged due to excessive straightening. And yes the Ojon dry shampoo is really good- highly recommended!

karen: Rosebud Salve is my beauty must (forgot to add it to the list!)

cupcakes and cashmere: no it's actually easier because it avoids time doing all that smudging stuff!

paige: Mmm love coconut lime body butter.

adiel: I heard bumble and bumble products were really good- have to try them now!

mickie: Aw thanks! And the ojon hair treatment smells a little bit like coffee beans, it's not that bad :)

the stylish wanderer: Ummm tips tips tips: Invest in a good camera for great quality photos!

tali: Ahhh I'm scared to try that! Haha but maybe it works for hair too?

anon1:16: Ahhh so true!

brini: It works wonders. Ojon products are great.

jillian: Thanks :)

poster: Ooo I love it, it smells so creamy and milky right?

diana: Hm, never heard of it.

dee: I'd say either a powder or a stain.. a cream seems too complicated for me haha.

Tali said...
